I Smashed, Crafted, Documented and Discovered my way through the last few days.

It was a productive end to a busy busy month and it was also very enjoyable!

I got to catch up with my long lost love Dexter and find out what crazy shenanigans he has in store for me.  Was very happy with the new twists and turns that I got to catch previews of at the end of the season premiere. The end of the episode was pretty hard core, I mean, he’s gonna have to come clean to Deb??? Say what???

I worked on multiple Smash Book pages, including one on “National Cheeseburger Day” which I thought turned out quite nice!

Hated this page!

Pretty happy with the way it turned out though!

The wheels are spinning for the next one which focuses on “Never underestimating the power of a cursively written Thank you Note”.

The power of cursive… and purples and graph paper and mustard yellow….

Wedding crafting galore has taken place, complete with multiple pinterest inspired projects.

Including “Love” wine bottles coated in spray paint,

Yellow spray painted “Love” wine bottles!

cursively handwritten bridal shower thank you notes complete with custom stamping and washi tape,

blue and green tinted/stained repurposed glass bottles made with modge podge and food coloring

Food coloring/modge podge/patience equals tinted glass.

and assembly of our centerpiece, it seems all of the pieces have finally come together!

So beautiful and cute!

Yellow Pop!

I’ve discovered just how incredibly popular #FMSphotoaday really is and have followed through with both prompts so far this month.  In case you missed it on my last post about it, here’s the list, click on the photo for her blog page:

Just snap a picture a day and choose a way to share it!

Day 1 “Where I stood

(If you click on this photo it will take you to the blog I used for directions for this project, should you be interested!)

Surround by bottles in blues and greens.

While looking at others submissions I found a new iphone app that I think is absolutely wonderful, called “over” which lets you place words over your photos, choosing alignment, fonts, sizing, etc….

Finally, a cursive layer for my digital images… sigh….
Click on image for Tech Crunch run down of the app.

I have also been enjoying adding “vintique” filters to my instagram photos, which is another app I have discovered in the last week or so.  I really like the added effects it has, especially when combined with the instagram filters.  I used vintique, over, instagram and diptic on todays “Day 2″‘s photo submission.

Day 2 “Lunchtime”

Never a dull moment. Centerpiece assembly, wedding lists, broccoli cheddar soup, a visit from the future hubby, 38 Special ammunition delivery and this month’s calendar assembly, all in a girl’s lunch.

Today I worked on my new wedding list, the RSVPed attending, meal selection, table number, song suggestion list and came to realize with exactly one week left until the “due date” that about 75 percent of those invited have yet to respond…  Mildly concerning, but I am hopeful that my mailbox will be filled to the brim with vintage stamp covered craft paper envelopes tomorrow!  I was saddened and pretty much moped my way back up to the house today upon discovering that today was a day that none had come.

Many more things left on the list of course, place cards are the next big mission and because I’ve been so darn crafty and thoughtful thus far, no way will simple, ink jet printed cream colored simplicity work at this point, I am going to have to concoct something worthy of our affair, focus on that tomorrow!

Picked up two incredibly lovely vintage props “for the wedding” (oh yes, it has begun and I am deep in the “everything can be justified with “for the wedding” phase”) I am thinking of it as a reward for all of my hardwork 🙂  Etsy was a good friend to me this weekend and the sweet shops of “littlepart” and “frenchhen1”.

Vintage Tool Box (This photo does not do it justice!)

Can’t wait for it to get here!

Vintage Smith Corona Portable Typewriter

I just could resist… The French Hen Shop has more to offer, click this pic to find out

Going to use the tool box possibly on the backdrop for the ceremony or on the guestbook table.  The typewriter I am going to put on the guest book table as well, think it will be fun to give guests the option to type their message (although I would naturally prefer cursive) typewriter is the next best thing though!  Plus they just look cool, who can resist an old fashioned type writer?  I mean I am old enough that I actually took a TYPING class in the 7th grade, I was damn good at it too lol, I looked forward to that class, I will always be a nerd.  My sister got a fancy ELECTRIC typewriter for her highschool graduation, complete with the little digital 3in. calculator like “display”, my sister is 10 years older than me and I was seven at the time, I was SO jealous of her that day I could barely stand it!

One last tidbit, I am EAGERLY awaiting the arrival of my new Polaroid z2300 camera

“It will be mine… Oh yes, it will be mine.”

that I ordered from Urban Outfitters (because I had to have the white one…) that I will be using as part of our Polaroid/Smashbook/Wedding Guestbook.  What’s that you ask?  Stay tuned and you shall most certainly find out!

Until then.

GREY’S ANATOMY… “Going, Going, Gone” ?

Grey’s Anatomy premiered last night as most everyone is aware…

“No one apparently…”

In years past, the season premiere of this particular show would have incited intense excitement and anticipation for me, I would have been curled up on the couch ready and waiting to see what my “friends” have been up to.  Me, Meredith, Derek, Christina, Alex, Izzy, George, Richard, Dr. Burke and Addison… we go WAY back, we’ve been hanging out since 2006 (yes, I was late, I had no idea what Grey’s was and NO IDEA why everyone kept calling my favorite song on the radio “The Grey’s Anatomy Song”, but when I found out, I was HOOKED!)  I am a “repeater” and The Fray’s “How to Save a Life” only got more play time once I associated it with Grey’s!

There are NO WORDS for the ridiculousness that is the image you see for this youtube video lol, but, it’s a great video once you skip the the two minute ad at the beginning and close out the yellow “click for a funny video box”!

This year it was different, I found myself almost dreading the series premiere instead of looking forward to it. I really couldn’t wrap my head around last years season finale.  I was honestly just kinda over it after the whole plane crash shenanigan, I mean, seriously?  Totally unnecessary! I felt like it was a personal attack on me, I mean here I am growing more and more attached to my “friends” and Shonda just keeps killing them off.  I mean I have dealt with the following:

  • I accepted that Izzy wanted to be a movie star so she had to get cancer and be shitty to Alex.
  • I accepted that Addison needed to do a spin off show and that even though I had grown quite fond of her, even though I was always on “Team Meredith” of course, when Taye Diggs calls, you answer. (We all saw “How Stella Got Her Groove Back“!!!)
  • I accepted that even though Dr. Burke said he was sorry and did what he was suppose to do to make things as right as he could that PR just wasn’t going to allow it even though George was scheduled to be killed by a bus very shortly after Burke’s untimely departure, so he had to go.
  • I even kept it in stride when she killed Meredith and Derek’s unborn baby along with almost all of the other “new people” that she had tried to make me be friends with…

and much much more.

But, the core is thinning out and I just don’t know that I am looking for “new friends”, not at Seattle Grace anyway.  Shonda introduces me to “new friends” quite regularly, she has proven to be quite the matchmaker for me in many different locations but I think she and I may have to focus our energies on nurturing other friend groups because this one is quite literally DEAD.

It should be said that I am watching the show as I am writing this, watching a bit, pausing, writing and repeat.  The fact that I am even able to pause and wait and do anything whilst watching speaks volumes about the shows fading ability to make me hold my breath.  This season’s promo photo is weird, it feels extremely awkward and forced and oh by the way, WHY DON’T THEY LOOK LIKE DOCTORS???

Every other season they have been suited up in MD gear, scrubs, white coats etc… and this season they’re doing a photo shoot?  Huh?  It just looks REALLY stupid to me, it makes me feel bad for my “friends”, seeing them look so incredibly awkward….

Last seasons’ was sharp and classy and well… you know… “DOCTOR-like”… no more of that apparently.

The umbrella picture below if the Season 6 poster which promised to be”the season that changes everything”. Seems like EVERY season is “the season that changes everything”…  It kinda feels like “change” is becoming synonymous with”death” and granted death most definitely fits the definition of change, it would be awesome if some other kind of “change” could come to be expected for my “friends”.

As I am watching this episode, I am waiting… waiting for someone to wake up from a bad dream so that this terrible scenario is not reality, to explain what the hell has happened to Seattle Grace, to explain to me who all of these people I am watching are and what they have done with my “friends”, for someone to ‘fix” what has been done…. still waiting, 25 minutes in….

So… “The Twisted Sisters” just needed to endure a plane crash to magically unravel themselves and now they can just get by via Facetime via the ever so subtly placed “non-ipad ipad”?  Brilliant!  And now in a clever “twist” Meredith’s new nickname is “Medusa”, which makes perfect sense since now her snake dreads have no sister to twist around, magic in metaphors!

OMG 34 minutes in and DR. BAILY is no longer “The Nazi” she is “BCB”… “Booty Call Baily”?  WHAT. IS. THIS. PLACE?  McSteamy is dead and I am SO PISSED that I can’t even be sad.  These are my friends, I would normally be hysterical right now and… I’ve got a little knot in my throat but… this would be full on waterworks show…  This is NOT OK.  Not only is she killing my friends off, but now she is taking away my ability to react and mourn appropriately.  She’s totally messing with my psyche.

Arizona lived but lost a leg…That sucks.

But… for me, when you kill everyone else, it’s hard to really get drawn into a woe is me I had my leg amputated story line, but, we’ll see what they do with it…

I suppose I am going to entertain the show since I have been so committed for so long now, but… I am extremely wary of the direction it is headed.  It made me nostalgic for the place I was in in my own life and also for the place where Meredith started out when they played “Portions for Foxes” by Rilo Kiley in this episode.  It almost adds insult to injury to try and inspire any sort of memory to that space and time when nothing is reminiscent now.  Back when feelings and emotions and doctor drama were pivotal to the story line… Those were the days. Sigh.

Writing this post has made me realize that I have obviously been carrying around some heavy baggage filled with disdain for the loss of all my “friends”, so whether this gets read by anyone or not, I can honestly say that I feel a lot better now that I got all of that out! Obviously, I’m not the only one feeling sad, confused and just plain tired… I just wish Shonda would chill a little. You know?

I’ve been waiting for this.

He saw. She saw.

When I was newly single and living alone for the first time, almost four years ago now, I discovered the amazingness that was Netflix on the Wii!  You know, back when you had to load a DVD into the Wii and then it would log you into Netflix heaven?  Well, that is when I discovered Dexter, I was late jumping on the band wagon and from the one or two episodes I had seen when it first came out, I just didn’t get it’s appeal…

Until the wonderful world of streaming TV shows became a part of my life.  It was as if all of a sudden I could experience the highs and lows that all of America, hell, maybe the world had gone through watching this character Dexter murder graciously over the course of months, even years, IN JUST ONE DAY/NIGHT OR EVEN A FEW HOURS.  It was an exciting adventure… until I ran out of new material.  There were only so many seasons of Dexter available on Netflix and the show was so popular, you couldn’t rent the season DVDs anywhere!  So…. after an intense 3 week love affair with Dexter Morgan consuming all of my nights and whatever other free time I had, I had to cut him loose.  He was becoming too much work and I just wasn’t motivated anymore.  But!  About two months ago I was looking for shows to watch in marathon fashion while doing crafts and what not and Dexter presented himself again, it seemed as though he wanted another chance and with the new Showtime Anytime app on my Ipad, it seemed like it was meant to be.  I dove right in, even revisiting some episodes I had already seen, just to be sure Mr. Morgan and I were on the same page and… we were.  I fell in love all over, once again allowing him to consume my days and nights.  Because of the way that Showtime Anytime (yes I’m putting this on them!) is set up, before you know it you have watched multiple seasons and are rapidly approaching the end of their offerings.  Que my very own incredibly poor planning skills… If I had just waited, timed things out a little bit better, I could have segued straight from the end of Season 6 (which had the biggest cliffhanger of all of them naturally!) and moved straight into the Season Premiere of Season 7… But no, I gobbled every last second of every episode a month ago and knowingly thrust myself into the agony that is waiting for Dexter to return.

‘Dexter’ returns reinvigorated and with a bit of relief for season seven

I am well aware that I am mostly a jerk for even whining in the slightest since most loyal followers have had to wait a year to reunite with Dexter.  Long story short, I am looking forward to this Sunday.
